nails FAQ

Why don’t you use the razor/credo blades when doing a pedicure?

It is illegal in the state of Texas for Nail Tech’s to use them. A Podiatrist is trained in using these blades. They also can transmit disease if not properly sanitized.

Is it ok if I shave my legs right before I get a pedicure?

It is best not to shave your legs right before a pedicure. The scrubs used can cause an irritation and sometimes burn. When we shave we microscopy cut ourselves so if you are at a salon that you aren’t 100% sure about the way they clean the pedicure tub you could be introducing bacteria into your system. It is best that you shave AFTER you pedicure. We don’t mind, I promise, plus after your pedicure, you will get a closer shave. But if you insist on shaving before, do it at least 24hours prior.

Is the Shellac formula "3-free"?

Yes, Shellac does NOT include Formaldehyde, Toluene, or DBP (Dibutyl Phthalate)

What type of client is Shellac best for?

All types, but specifically geared toward the natural nail client.

How long does it take for Shellac to dry?

There is no drying time.  Once the manicurist is done the client is dry and may do ANYTHING needed.

Is there any odor to Shellac?

A slight odor may be noticeable upon application but not as strong as nail polish.  After curing in the lamp, residual odor does not remain.

Will soaps or other personal grooming products affect the wearability of Shellac?

No, Shellac was developed and tested to withstand the rigors of daily wear.

Are there any negative side effects of the frequency of removal with Shellac?

No, not as long as the system is being used correctly.

Does the Nail Technician have to file the shine from the natural nail prior to application?

No, roughing the nail surface is not necessary and can damage the natural nail.

What happens if I (the client) peels off the Shellac?

It will damage the natural nail.

If the Client wants to grow out their enhancements, (instead of removing them) can you file down the enhancement and apply Shellac while transitioning?

YES.  Shellac will adhere to the remaining enhancement product as well as the natural nail.  NOTE:  Keep in mind the remaining enhancement product will soften when Shellac is removed.

What exactly is MINX?

Minx is a solid film with an adhesive back that is heat activated.  The heat gives Minx the conformability to fit over the compound curves of nails and seals it onto the nail bed.  Minx can be easily removed with heat by either the manicurist or the client.

If Minx is applied and removed with heat can I go into a hot tub wearing Minx?

Yes you can still go into a hot tub. When applied correctly Minx has a waterproof seal that will not release until the seal is broken by lifting the edge with a finger nail or object such as an orangewood stick.

Does the client need Minx Heat to remove Minx?

No, you are using heat to make the adhesive easier to remove once the seal is broken.  For this you can use warm water or a hair dryer.

What happens if the Minx is removed without heat?

It can damage the natural nail by pulling off layers of the nail.

How long does Minx last?

It depends on several factors; the most important being proper application.  The norm being 1-2 weeks, longer on toes.  Minx does not chip, it may wear slightly at the free edge of the nails that are heavily used, will not wear any further.

How long does it take Minx to dry?

It requires no drying time.  You may leave immediately.
